Applicants must be current students pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field. Strong applicants are skilled developers (JS/TS/Python) with experience in modern data workflows and AI frameworks. They deliver clean, well-documented, production-ready code.

The Builder-in-Residence program is a 3-month program where student builders turn raw concepts into working open-source projects powered by Bright Data. The program is held virtually.

Builders should plan to spend approximately 8 hours per week on independent project work, plus check-ins and mentorship sessions.

Yes. Program eligibility requires academic enrollment. BA, MA, MSc, and PhD students in technical fields, with a technical background and builder mindset, are welcome to apply.

Applications are individual only. Each applicant must apply on their own behalf. Group applications will not be reviewed.

We’re looking for open-source projects that help build a Web Context layer or a search engine for any topic.

Projects should combine Bright Data technology with at least one other major technology, such as an LLM, agent framework, vector database, automation tool, or developer framework.

Projects could include tools for collecting, organizing, enriching, and searching public web data around a specific topic, community, industry, or use case. This might include topic-specific search engines, data pipelines, semantic search tools, APIs, dashboards, or AI-ready context layers.

Strong projects should solve a real problem, be useful to others, and have the potential to gain traction and build a following.

You don’t need a finished product before applying. A strong idea and clear motivation are enough.

Yes. All projects created during the residency must be published as open-source projects on GitHub.

Yes. Builders are expected to document their progress, share technical learnings, and promote their project launches across GitHub, X, LinkedIn, Discord, or relevant developer communities.

Builders receive Bright Data credits, mentorship from engineers and senior architects, code reviews, weekly check-ins, bi-weekly syncs, monthly cohort meetings, and possible project amplification.

Yes. Builders receive a total stipend of $3,000 for successful participation in the 3-month residency.

Builders may be eligible for a $500 performance bonus for projects that reach defined engagement milestones, such as GitHub stars, forks, or meaningful community traction.

To apply, you must fully complete the application form. The application includes a section to share a 2-minute video introducing who you are, what you want to build, why your project is useful, and how it will use Bright Data technology together with at least one other major technology, such as an LLM, agent framework, vector database, automation tool, or developer framework.

The video does not need to be professionally produced. A simple, clear recording is enough. Make sure your video is accessible through a shared link and that the Bright Data team has permission to view it.

Relevant applicants will be contacted by October 20 to schedule an interview with the Bright Data team. Offers will be made the following week, and the program will kick off during the first week of November with a virtual kickoff session.
